Artist’s Statement
I began my art studies as a mature student, taking night classes in drawing during my spare time. This led on to me studying at Wimbledon College of Art where I gained my Foundation Diploma. In 2014, I graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art (1:1) from Wirral Metropolitan College. At this time, my work focused upon the use of natural found objects to produce collages. This included creating patterns and shapes from the unconscious, very much mirroring practices used by the Surrealists to access the unconscious.
Since 2014, I work from home in my Hoylake attic studio. I enjoy taking an active part in local exhibitions, the Open Studios Tour and the West Kirby Art Group.
Since graduating my work has often focused upon local architecture as a starting point. As ever, I like to use my imagination and the different buildings are set in imaginary landscapes, often taking on a dreamlike quality. I continue to be interested in the use of pattern, repetition, and colour. I usually create these small paintings in acrylic and ink.
More recently, I have taken an interest in using still life, to produce acrylic paintings with a looser, more abstract quality.
Some of my work is on show and for sale at Dragonfly, 32a Market Street, Hoylake.
