Artist’s Statement
My varied and interesting working life has included teaching Woodwork in US summer camps, Conservation of the Lutyens architectural model (National Museums and Galleries Merseyside), and a PhD on High Wycombe Furniture manufacturers.
I studied Foundation art at Liverpool Polytechnic 1986-7 and HND fine craft and cabinetmaking at Bucks College of HE 1987-90, separated by a summer backpacking in Iceland
I have pursued my art in a number of media. After an intensive 18-month sabbatical dedicated to life drawing in order to re-set myself, I returned to painting in 2017 with renewed vigour. My work is currently divided into Oil paintings of figurative but surreal subjects, acrylic landscapes and still life, and watercolour sketches for reference. Drawing is the heart of all my observation.
Social media, especially Instagram and Whatsapp, enable me to share my work and gain feedback from colleagues and fellow artists.
