Artist’s Statement
I’m primarily a watercolour painter exploring light and tone in landscape. Over time my work has become a space for personal reflection and engagement with the elements through the flow of pigment and water. Colour echoes those seen in open landscapes in varying seasons and weather conditions. I like the way definition can be obscured by mist, shadow or distance. For me this seems to represent the experience of vulnerability and wonder which has been a dominant feature in my own life.
Recently I have enjoyed the challenge of working on a larger scale. In the 2018 Open Exhibition my painting ‘Night: Marine Lake’ was purchased by the Williamson Art Gallery and I was fortunate to later receive a prize in the WSA members’ 70th Anniversary exhibition for ‘Rainshadow: Vale of Clwyd’.
