Artist’s Statement
I am a self taught artist who has worked in a variety of different roles, mostly unrelated to art, but no matter what I have found myself doing for a job, I have always returned to creativity as a way to express myself and more often than not as a refuge for those times when life throws a curve ball. The focus that is required to create a satisfying image is often so all encompassing that life’s little challenges tend to feel more manageable whenever I am engaged in a creative project.
My work is very varied and I don’t like to be tied down to working with only one specific medium or subject matter. So I can be inspired by small organic forms working in oil on large waste wood panels or am compelled to create character studies in graphite of people and I am often commissioned to undertake portrait painting. I love to paint and draw but I do also experiment a lot with image transfer, print and collage techniques and tend to vary my approach and technique depending on the work.
I am qualified to teach art to adults at beginner and intermediate level and run regular 10 week courses local to where I live in Chester, so I would consider my practice to be multi-disciplinary in nature and I am always looking for ways to grow and evolve.
More of my work can be viewed via my website www.christinegallagherartist.com or please contact me via info@wirralsocietyofarts.org if you are interested in commissioning me.
