The Wirral Society of Arts was formed in 1948 as an exhibiting society for professional and semi-professional artists in the NorthWest. The WSA currently has 138 members. Associated for many years with the Williamson Art Gallery and Museum in Birkenhead Wirral, the society holds an annual exhibition alternating between a Member’s Exhibition and an Open Exhibition. This year (2017) is the 8th Open Exhibition and attracts entries from artists at all stages of their career from anywhere in the world. This Open is the start of the WSA 70th anniversary celebrations as well as the 90th anniversary of the Williamson. The Open has attracted submissions from 158 artists who have submitted over 400 works, The panel has selected 215 quality pieces to be hung at the gallery. Judging, by a panel of external judges, will take place later this month to award the prizes: £1,500 first prize, £1,000 second and £500 third. Most work is for sale and it affords an opportunity to purchase quality art work in many styles.
